Khajuria, Sukhnandan condemns govt attitude towards Early Times | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 11: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today condemned the state coalition government's stand to withhold government advertisements to English news paper Early Times daily. According to BJP MLA, Ashok Khajuria the selective stoppage of government advertisements to the daily newspaper Early Times by the state government was a matter of concern. The issue of selective stoppage of advertisements by the government seems to be a ploy to restrict the freedom of expression in the state particularly the freedom of media to report, comment and analyze the issues of public importance. Khajuria said that the government has chosen to ignore the seditious and communal reporting by the press in the Kashmir valley, it has many times acted to intimidate and coerce dissenting newspaper groups in Jammu who have upheld norms ethical journalism and also fiercely defended their right to report and analyze the happenings on the ground. He, meanwhile, appealed to all freedom loving people of the state to condemn the approach of the government to coerce the free opinion in the state . He urged the government to relook into its policy vis-à-vis media in the state and adopt not only an unbiased approach but also realize that restrictions imposed on the media in whatever form eventually are self-defeating. |
