Cities of Jammu and Srinagar alongwith towns of Udhampur, Kathua, Samba, Anantnag, Baramullah and Sopore have outlets which sell ready to cook foods. Noodles top the list followed by Pasta and packaged soups. One needs not to travel to Delhi, Chandigarh or any other major city in Punjab for packets of Knorr soup noodles or maggi or Horlicks foodies. As the taste for the fast foods has started growing, one finds lesser crowds at hotels and restaurants ordering for Hyderabadi biryanii, roganjosh and other delicacies. School going and college students prefer noodles and soups even for breakfast. Estimates say that in India, instant noodles have a market of over Rs.1, 000 crores followed by Rs.200 crores for packaged soups and Rs.50 crores for pasta. Similarly the demand for non-traditional ready to cook items in Jammu and Kashmir has gone high. This has encouraged even small provision store owners to keep available packets of noodles, soups, ready to cook vegetables and other items.
