Dry weather to continue, no hope of early snowfall | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Dec 13 : The continuing dry spell of weather has become a cause of concern for the people of entire hilly regions, including Kashmir valley, where minus 5 degree temperature was however, not unusual. There was slight improvement in night temperature in the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region, but strong Western Disturbances (WD) still elude the region. Head of the weather office in Kashmir, Sonam Lotus said that no snowfall during the past one month was a cause of concern, not only for the people of the Kashmir valley, but entire hilly region. He said WD, originating in Arabian sea and entering the region through Afghanistan and Pakistan, are not developing properly with the result we are facing dry weather condition. The WD entering the region are very weak, he said adding these disturbances are leaving without touching the region. Until there is snowfall, we will face water shortage during the summer, he said and expected snowfall in the coming weeks. However, he said, the lowest temperature so far recorded was minus 5.2 degree on December 11 was nothing unusual. ``We have been recording minus temperature in the past also, he said adding it was minus 7.4 degree in December in 2007’’.
