| Rs 4.51 cr realized as fine by traffic dept in Jammu division | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, December 13: As many 2,52,994 vehicles were challaned for violations of traffic rules and Rs 4.51 crore realized as fine by the Traffic Department in Jammu division during the current financial year. Besides 25 cases were registered against the traffic violators under MV Act during the year.
In order to review steps taken to prevent road accidents, a high level meeting was held here today under the chairmanship of Minister for Transport and CAPD Qamar Ali Akhoon.
The meeting was among others attended by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Secretary CAPD and Transport Pardeep Gupta, Transport Commissioner, Dr. Syed Fazalullah, IGP Traffic, Kamal Saini, Managing Director, SRTC, J. S. Tandan, RTO, Jammu, Varinder Slathia, RTO Kathua, Shiv Gupta, Deputy Transport Commissioner, Bhumesh Sharma and other officers of the debarment.
To curb the accidents in the State, the meeting decided to constitute teams headed by RTOs, Traffic Police Inspectors, Naib-Tehsildars, representative of SRTC for launching joint drive against the violators of traffic rules. It was also decided to examine the provision of filing of FIRs against owners and drivers of passenger vehicles under the provision of damage to Public Safety Act for taking further action.
Addressing the meeting, Akhoon stressed for strict implementation of time table of passenger buses fixed by the RTOs. He asked the Transport Commissioner to convene meeting of private transport groups of Rajouri-Poonch, Banihal-Jammu, Jammu-Kathua, Jammu-Chhamb and Jammu-R.S.Pura and ensure the implementation of the procedure strictly.
The Minister underscored the need for creating awareness among the people as well as operators of the vehicle about the traffic rules by holding camps, seminars, conferences etc to save the precious lives and property.
The Minister said that for better management of transportation, transport policy is under consideration of the government, for this purpose, Real India Technical and Economic Services (RITES) have been asked to conduct a survey for taking early action.
Akhoon stressed for active coordination between the traffic and MVD to check the menace of overloading and to ensure safety of commuters travelling in passenger vehicles.
