2 Parade College students steal rings from jewellery shop, 1 held

JAMMU, Dec 13: Two B.Com. final year students of Government College for Women, Parade, allegedly stole 14 rings weighing 7.5 tolas from a jewellery shop at Jain Bazar here today. While one of them was arrested by police late tonight, the other was
yet to be taken into custody, police sources said.
The duo were identified on the basis of CCTV footage, the sources added.
The one, who was cooling her feet in the police lock up, was identified as Anu Sharma, daughter of Jagdish Raj Sharma of Indira Nagar, Talab Tillo.
She identified her accomplice as Damini of Domana. Both of them are B.Com. final years students of Parade Women College. Sources said the duo came to the shop of Kanahiya Jewellers at Jain Bazar and asked the owner to show them gold ornaments.
While he showed them rings and other items of jewellery, more customers came to the shop. The owner asked the girls to select the rings for them till he attended other customers.
Sources said while the owner was busy with other customers, the girls left the shop, saying they would come some other day. After the customers were gone, the goldsmith, who had fitted a CCTV camera in the shop, found 14 rings missing from the display tray. He immediately informed police.
With the help of CCTV footage, police identified the accused and arrested one of them late tonight. Efforts were being made to trace the residence of the other accused,
the sources added.Anu was lodged in the women police station at Canal Road here.
