Upbeat for 'elephantine' presence of top leadership,
BJP gears up for Dec 24 'show'
12/14/2010 1:01:46 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Dec 13: Faced with many internal challenges and self contradictory policies, while the Congress at the state level continues to fight and struggle for a 'smooth and comfortable' alliance with NC, its main political rival BJP is gearing up and utilizing all its resources for the forthcoming public rally, which the party terms as historic event to be organized on the soil of Jammu on December 24.
If the claims of state leadership are to be believed the rally will truly turn out to be historic in more than one way. One, that all the top leaders of the country's biggest party in opposition will converge in the City of temples, a small place comparatively to other towns, for these stalwarts and high profiled politicians to be present simultaneously together. But since the 'cause' has political colours and contours, the leadership has volunteered to make the presence felt on proverbial 'elephantine' manner, apparently to make the event conspicuous and send a message not only to its arch rival Congress but also to the ruling ally in J&K, the National Conference, particularly the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who is in the centrestage of whole 'show'.
From president of the Party Nitin Gadkari to stalwarts like LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley and other top dignitaries of the party will make it to Jammu rally- all to put up a show of strength in front of Jammu masses. The show has been 'conceptualized' primarily to oppose and negate what Omar Abdullah said about Kashmir over two months back as also some of his policies like rehabilitation of ex militants, which BJP feels will only strengthen the separatist forces seeking secession of Kashmir from rest of the country. BJP sources said the state leadership is also trying hard to ensure the presence of its fiery leader Gujarat Chief Minister Narender Singh Modi to make the event more 'aggressive' in terms of content of nationalistic voices in a loud and impacting manner.
Now, apparently, in order to make the show a real mega political event, the entire hierarchy at the state level besides the 'prabharies' at the national level are on tenterhooks and making all efforts to mobilize 'good crowd and receptive audience' to listen to the party stalwarts. The energy of entire organizational strength is being utilized and channelised for this job, with senior leaders of the party holding hectic meetings almost daily with various committees at different levels, besides office bearers at senior levels. Even several national leaders have started arriving every alternate day to take stock of the preparations being made by the state leadership for this historic event, which certainly would see all the BJP top leaders together on one platform.
The event also assumes significance in historical perspective that it is for the first time the entire top hierarchy will assemble in Jammu to 'trumpet' in loudest possible manner against Congress, it being the major and main political constituency of both the nationalist parties. Though the target of anger and resentment for cause of Kashmir will be Chief Minister, but in actual terms the BJP leadership wants to hit and attack Congress upfront, for being an ally of a party which has not only Kashmir centric focus in the policies but also of late has upped its agenda and voice over the dynamics of Kashmir problem. It, however, remains to be seen how Congress takes this 'political offensive'.
