VOJ registers case against SP Security

JAMMU, Dec 14 (JNF): State Vigilance Organization (SVO) registered a case for demand and acceptance of bribe against SP (Security) Romesh Kumar Bhat here today.
Police registered the case on the basis of communication issued by GAD against SP Security then Additional SP Nowshera Rajouri. GAD issued the communication on the basis of enquiry held in respect of allegations of demand and acceptance of bribe from the wife of Chanchal Kumari for release of Mahesh Singh from the custody and for not registering case against him.
During the enquiry, it has been found that on November 16, 2009 Mahesh Singh was burning bushes on Jammu-Poonch National Highway. Then Additional SP Nowhsera Romesh Kumar Bhat reached the spot and directed Mahesh Singh to accompany him in his vehicle to Police Station Dharamshal and finally to police post, Lamberi under false pretext that the complainant was setting fire to the forest.
Mahesh Singh was illegally detained in connivance with Krishal Lal incharge Police Post Lamberri by Romesh Kumar Bhat Additional SP. Wife of Mahesh Singh subsequently approached Additional SP who demanded bribe of Rs. 20,000 or 2 Kanal of land as illegal gratification for release of her husband Mahesh Singh from the custody and for not registering a case against him.

Upon this, Chanchal Kumari paid Rs 20,000 as bribe to Additional SP for the release of her husband. The public servant after receiving bribe of Rs 20,000 released Mahesh Singh from the custody with registering a case against him. It has also found out of the bribe amount Rs 20,000, Rs 15000 was returned by the Public Servant to the complainant. Upon this VOJ registered a case u/s 120-B, 161, 342 RPC, 5(1) (c) (d), 5(20 J&K PC Act 2006started investigation in the case but no arrest has been made so far.
