CT department all set to go computerized

JAMMU, DEC14 – The Department of Commercial Taxes has embarked upon taking in hand a prestigious computerization project to automate its working. A step forward in this regard was taken today by familiarizing representatives of various stakeholder. Prominent among those, were the representatives from Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jammu, Association Associated Chamber of Retailers Federation, Jammu, Association of Small Scale Industries Association, Digiana and Gangyal, Bari Brahmana Industrial Association, Association of Chartered Accountants, Tax Bar Association, Jammu, Association of Sales Tax Practitioners.
In his welcome address, the Commissioner, Commercial Taxes, Khawaja Bashir Ahmed gave an overview of the project for computerization of the department. The detailed presentation was made by the team of leader for J&K from TCS Mr. Alok Jain. Explaining in detail the concept, the participants were made aware of the need, the processes and the interface that would be made available by the Department to the traders’ fraternity. They were explained the process of registration, return filing and payments that is proposed to be made electronically be use of computer for which purpose, the department is geared up to use a state of art Date Centre equipped with the latest servers and routers duly supported by sufficient internet and internet connectivity from BSNL. The participants were walked through the whole scheme of events that would be encountered while making use of electronic facilities that are expected to be rolled out partially on December 21, 2010. The efforts of the Department was appreciated by all the participants who also suggested that more such sessions need to be organized at different levels to make the traders aware of this fantastic facility. It was also proposed that help should be extended to the traders to facilitate use of electronic mode for registration, e-filing of returns etc. so that there is least additional cost burden on them while transacting on the new web portal.
While thanking the participants for taking out their time for participation in the familization seminar, the Commissioner Commercial Taxes assured that their concerns and suggestions shall be considered with utmost care as the basic purpose of provision of e-facility is to streamline the system and to provide hassle-free and transparent services to the dealers. He added that all possible help shall be extended by the Department of Commercial Taxes to ensure that the dealers adopt this system with convenience and goodwill.
