‘Pulwama blasts meant to wreck ensuing Panchayat poll’
12/15/2010 10:30:32 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 15: The twin explosions in Pulwama in South Kashmir yesterday in which 11 people were injured are said to be part of the plan of the extremists develop fear psychosis among the National Conference leadership, especially Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, who has started reaching out to the people in order to mitigate their problems.
Government sources said that the two explosions were aimed at discouraging the Chief Minister in his resolve to preside over the District Development Board (DDB) meetings for reviewing the progress of various development schemes.
Sources said that soon after the civilian strife lost its teeth Omar Abdullah had been advised by the centre to reach out the people in order to redress the grievances of the people of the valley.
Earlier when the DDB meetings were held most of them were convened in Srinagar because of the security reasons.
Soon after the situation started showing signs of improvement the Chief Minister and his ministerial colleagues had been encouraged in visiting various district and tehsil headquarters which infuriated the militants as they were opposed to it.
This was one of the reasons that motivated militants to carry out the blasts in Pulwama.
Police sources said that continued search operations and the offensive launched against the rebels had unnerved militants who out of desperation were trying to kick up subversive activities in order to create scare among the masses.
The sources said that reports indicated that such explosions or other subversive activities were likely to increase as the militants and separatists were trying to sabotage the Panchayat poll process.
The Chief of the hardliners among the separatists, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, has already urged people to boycott the Panchayat elections. And in order to ensure that the poll process evoked very poor response from the voters which could embarrass the state and the central Governments.
Reports said that the security agencies have been directed to intensify their patrolling and surveillance in order to eliminate those militants who were trying to destabilize peace and wreck the Panchayat poll.
