HC keeps appointment of Readers in abeyance

JAMMU, Dec: 15 (JNF):- The High Court has directed the government to keep appointment of Readers in abeyance. The order was passed in a writ petition filed by Naveen Kumar and Sanjeev Singh Katoch by Justice Sunil Hali. c
The court after hearing petitioners in person ordered that appointment orders of the selected candidates, if issued, shall be kept in abeyance till December 22, 2010.
The petitioners submitted that vide notification No 1 dated April 2, 2009 issued by Registrar General J&K High Court for making appointment to the post of Readers in the High Court, the eligibility criteria indicated that 80 Marks be reserved for competitive examination and 20 Marks for viva-voce. Only the candidates who would obtain 45% or more marks in the competitive examination were required to be called for the interview.
The petitioners had applied to the respondents for seeking information from the office under RTI Act for indicating the marks secured by them in the competitive examination. The application is stated to have been filed on July 16, 2010 information provided on November 22, 2010, it was informed that petitioners have secured 55 and 53.5 marks respectively out of 80 marks, which would means that despite having secured more than 45 marks they have not been called for the interview. It is further submitted that selection has been completed but the select list has not been published or disclosed.
The court issued notice to the respondents and after gone through the case of the petitioners issued order that appointment of the selected candidates, if issued, shall be kept in abeyance till December 22, 2010 and observed that this direction is being issued in view of fact that petitioner’s prima-facie were eligible to be called for the interview but despite being eligible they have not been called for the interview and directed Registrar General J&K High Court that he shall produced the relevant selection record on the next date of hearing.
