Railways to resume service in valley shortly: Khoda

JAMMU, Dec 15: Much to the relief of long distance commuters of the valley, Baramulla-Qazigund rail service resumes its operation in a couple of days. The track repair works have almost been completed and redeployment of security undertaken.
Decision to this effect was taken at a high level security review meeting of Jammu and Kashmir Railways, presided over by Director General of Police (DGP) Kuldeep Khoda at Railway headquarters here today. The meeting is second in series held by the DGP to review the functioning of various wings of Police Organization.
The meeting deliberated upon the overall security cover to the entire rail link of Katra-Qazigund-Budgam-Baramulla and it was told in the meeting that foolproof security cover has been provided to the track, installations and workforce. Resumption of Qazigund-Baramulla rail service would take place in two phases. In the first phase traffic on Qazigund-Budgam track would be restored while as in the second phase on Budgam-Baramulla track.
It may be recalled that the rail service was suspended in July this year following incidents of violence and burning down of some railway installations. Since then repair works by concerned agencies were taken up on war footing.
Addressing the meeting, Khoda said Railways has added responsibilities to Jammu and Kashmir Police and asked the concerned officers to ensure not only the safety of passengers and installations but also ensure a smooth, hassle free service to the people so that they don’t have any problem.
Its worthwhile to mention here that in order to make access of the over all progress of police department, DGP Khoda is holding a series of review meetings with the various wings of police force. Today he made access of the railway police’s security arrangements and tomorrow he will review the traffic wing of the police.
As per sources the traffic related problems including traffic congestion, accidents on roads on daily basis and traffic police’s arrangements for installation of traffic lights in the city.
Officers of Crime Branch and District Police are also working hard for compiling of crime related records. Instructions have been served to the Crime Branch sleuths to solve the pending cases on war footing. As per sources twenty nine cases have been registered with the Crime Branch this year.
Like wise district police is also compiling the solved and unsolved cases which is to be presented before DGP in a review meeting schedule to be held on 20 December. Sources have also revealed that Giri encounter case is also to be discussed by DGP in the upcoming meet.
