JKPP seeks amendments in Panchayat Raj Act | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 15: Jammu & Kashmir Panchayat Parishad (JKPP) on Wednesday demanded 73rd and 74th amendments of the constitution of India in the J&K Panchayat Raj Act, 1989 to empower the Panchayats. In an executive body meeting of JKPP held under the chairmanship of Jugal Kishore Gupta, president of the Parishad, the members expressed hope that the needed amendments would fully serve the purpose leaving no scope for further impediments in near future. The members also expressed satisfaction over seriousness and sincerity of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to empower Panchayati Raj Institutions in the state. The Parishad also favored Panchayat elections on non-party basis. The Parishad appealed all the political parties, social organizations and women development forums, youth wings to come forward in the noble and tough task to restore 3-tier Panchayati Raj in J&K fully viable and responsive bodies of people. JKPP patron, Abdul Gani Naseem, Yoginder Singh-Block president Billawar, Gopal Dass Sharma and Sujit Rampaul, both members, All India Panchayat council, Rajinder Khajuria-Block president Vijaypur, deep Mala-member AIPC, Preetma Bhagat, Rnjiv Dutta-Publicity Secretary and 13harat Mahujan general Secretary-JKPP were prominent among those who attended the meeting.
