Day temp above normal in valley , Kargil coldest at -14 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Dec 15: People in the Kashmir valley continued to shiver during the night with sub zero temperature, while Kargil with minus 14 degree minimum temperature was coldest in Ladakh region. There was no respite from cold as dry weather continued in the Kashmir valley, where health resort Pahalgam was coldest after the minimum dipped to minus 6 degree during the night. However, the day temperature was above normal, a weather office spokesman said here this afternoon. He said Srinagar recorded minus 4.6 degree this morning, freezing parts of the Dal Lake, taps, ponds and nallhas. However, the frozen water melted as the day progressed. Pahalgam, the world famous tourist resort in south Kashmir Himalayas, was coldest with minus 6 degree followed by Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway minus 4.6 degree minimum temperature. Kupwara, a border district in north Kashmir, also recorded minus 4.4 degree, he said. The world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, still awaiting snowfall, recorded minus 3.7 degree following by another health resort Kokernag recorded minus 2.9 degree. There was, however, some improvement in Leh where the minimum was recorded minus 10.8 degree this morning against yesterdays minus 13.6 degree. Kargil, a shia dominated border town, was coldest with minus 14 degree minimum temperature. However, despite biting cold, thousands of people joined the Muharram procession in the town today.
