Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 15: The Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) suffered another major jolt when the J&K and Himachal Pradesh police, in a joint operation, apprehended the outfit's district commander and his close associate from Kotla in Dharamshalla area of Kangra district in the wee hours of today.
Last month, HM's Jammu division commander and Pak national Abdullah Inquilabi was held by Delhi police from the union capital's Deer
Park. On December 10 last, another HM commander Javed Qureshi and his associate Tanvir fell in police trap at Dehradun. Qureshi and Tanvir were active in Marmat forests of Doda. The outfit, however, suffered another major jolt, when at about 3.45 am today, police teams from Jammu, Doda and HP laid hands on HM district commander Jameel Ahmad Wani (35), son of Mohammad Ibrahim
of Mangota, Marmat, and Ghulam Nabi, son of Bilal Ahmad of Behota,
Marmat.
Jameel was a close confidant of Qureshi, police sources said. Masquerading as labourers, the duo were residing in the area for the past two months, the sources added. Sources said they came to Himachal last month and planned to stay in
the state till April next year.
A Chinese pistol and eight cartridges were recovered from them, the sources added. Searches were on to find out if more militants were hiding in the
area. A court remanded them to four days of police custody. Soon after entering Dharamshalla, they were hired by contractor Jagdish for doing the job of labour. During their stay there, they also worked at Maklotganj and other adjoining areas. Sources said they were nabbed on the basis of central intelligence
agencies. The police teams from Jammu and Doda were camping there for the past three weeks. Their sustained interrogation was on.
They had sneaked into Himachal due to the increased pressure of police and security forces on militants in Jammu and Kashmir, the sources added.
Sources said Jameel, who joined militancy in 1993, was wanted in 12 cases, including 10 murder cases, registered against him in Doda police station.
