Jora reviews progress on works of tourist villages | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Dec 16: Minister for Tourism, Nawang Rigzin Jora reviewed progress of works under execution for developing tourist villages across Kashmir provinces in a meeting held here today. Minister of State for Tourism Nasir Aslam Wani, Commissioner Secretary, Tourism, Atul Dulloo, Director Tourism, Kashmir, Farooq Shah participated in the meeting. Briefing the meeting, Farooq informed the meeting that of the 32 identified villages in Kashmir and Ladakh, as many as, 17 villages have been sanctioned for development. He said that works on 13 sanctioned villages are being implemented by M&W Wing of the Directorate of Tourism. An expenditure of Rs. 2 crore has been incurred on building basic infrastructure and civic amenities in these tourist villages, he said and added work in other villages is apace. Addressing the meeting, Jora stressed on inter linkage of the tourist villages and called for creating extra-hardware-components like kiosks to facilitate showcasing and sale of handicrafts. He asked the executing agencies to pace up works, adding that full utilization of funds paves the way for getting additional villages sanctioned from Central Government. Earlier, Minister inspected site of old gutted Tourist Reception Centre site. An amount of Rs. 1.20 crore has been earmarked for rebuilding TRC during this fiscal. |
