| Special squad raids brick kilns | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 16: On receiving number of complaints from consumer regarding short measurement, overcharging and quality of bricks being sold to the consumer, a team comprising of Officers of Revenue, Legal Metrology and CAPD was constituted by Deputy Commissioner, Jammu for checking of traders dealing with sale of Brick Kilns.
Team raided brick-kilns at Domana namely New Choudhary Brick Kiln and Bharat Earth Products and also checked trolleys on road loaded with bricks. About 5.22 lakh bricks meant for sale to consumers were found to be undersize against the standards fixed by the competent authority. All undersize bricks were seized by Legal Metrology Department under Weights and Measures Act and their sale was stopped till further orders.
Team also found owner of Kavi Brick Kilns overcharging from the consumers and was also booked under provision of Weights and Measures Act. Brick kilns were also found violating conditions of notification issued in this regard like display of rate list, display of stock position, bills of stock sold, segregation of B class and C class bricks and allowing use of wood were also not produced at the time of inspection.
Directions were issued to the defaulters to produce all the relevant records as per the condition of the notification and to desist from the practice of cheating to the consumers otherwise stern action as warranted under the relevant acts will be initiated against unscrupulous traders.
