| People protest over alleged custodial death in Reasi | | |
KATRA, Dec 16:
Over the alleged custodial death of a youth, people today held a demonstration at the main Reasi crossing, demanding the suspension of Reasi police station SHO.
Amidst the raising of anti-police slogans, people placed Manoj's body at the Reasi crossing and blocked vehicular traffic.Deputy commissioner and SSP, Reasi, later visited the spot and assured the protesters that action would be taken against the SHO if he was found involved in Manoj's alleged custodial death.
The angry people also demanded government to one family member of the deceased. Following assurance by the senior officers that their demand would be taken up with the authorities concerned, the people dispersed peacefully.
The deputy commissioner had ordered a probe into the incident yesterday.
Manoj was Tuesday arrested by police from Reasi on the charges of selling and consuming liquor.
He had fallen unconscious under mysterious circumstances in the police lock up at Reasi and died later.
