| HM commander brought to Jammu from Himachal | | |
JAMMU, Dec 16: Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) district commander Jameel Ahmad Wani (35), who was Wednesday apprehended from Kotla in Dharamshalla area of Himachal Pradesh, was brought here today.
Wani, a resident of Mangota, Marmat, was arrested along with another HM militant Gulam Nabi Lone of Behota, Marmat.While Lone cooled his feet in the Jawali police station, Wani was brought here today by Himachal police for investigation into the case.
Police hoped that he would help them in the arrest of his local contacts and provide information about HM hideouts in the Marmat forests.The duo had taken a room on rent about a kilometer ahead of the 9 corps army headquarters at Jole and worked with Jagdish contractor as labourers.
Police sources said during their stay there, they had gathered ample information about the army headquarters and various routes leading to it.Jameel was a close confidant of Qureshi, who was arrested by police from Dehradun last week, the sources added.
Sources said they came to Himachal last month and planned to stay in the state till April next year. A Chinese pistol and eight cartridges were recovered from them.Sources said they were nabbed on the basis of inputs provided by
central intelligence agencies. They had sneaked into Himachal due to the increased pressure of police and security forces on militants in Jammu and Kashmir, the sources added.
Sources said Jameel, who joined militancy in 1993, was wanted in 12 cases, including 10 murder cases, registered against him in Doda police station.
