Listen interlocutors | J&K govt penalizing Early Times | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 16: Interlocutors may have crucial political agenda to cater to but being himself a journalist and head of interlocutors Dalip Padgonkar might take some interest in lending an ear to the manner in which media is being brutalized and Journalist being humiliated in Jammu and Kashmir. Early Times has been facing worst kind of administrative oppression and is being victimized for its bold reporting. The newspaper is being denied government advertisements despite being one of the largest circulated and read local daily. Denial of advertisements is aimed at harassing both management and staff of Early Times. Persecution of staff and management has become a matter of routine. False and frivolous cases are being registered against the management of the newspaper. Government departments are also intimidating the newspaper staff and management. They are creating unnecessary problems and making attempts to force closure of the newspaper. Management and staff is being summoned to police stations and forced to give fingerprints over blank sheets for unfounded offences. Business proposals of the management are being hijacked and cancelled by giving unfounded reasons. Threats are being given to both staff and management. More appalling is the manner in which political elite has maintained criminal silence over the victimization of a particular newspaper which is being printed and published from Jammu. Despite its nationalistic approach, newspaper is facing wrath of National Conference (NC) led government for its valiant reporting of the events and happenings within political and administrative circles. We would like to ask the interlocutors especially those who claim to be working for building peace across Jammu and Kashmir as to why they are silent over the government’s highhandedness. Ask for the reasons and you may find that one of the reasons is that Early Times newspaper has ensured hat government red-tape does not go unnoticed and is reported properly. Early Times would like to plead with interlocutors to seek answers from Jammu and Kashmir government for penalizing it.
