Senior NC leaders unhappy with CM’s style of functioning | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 16: Notwithstanding the rumblings in coalition over the style of functioning of Chief Minster Omar Abdullah who is dependent on the advice of a coterie inexperienced politicians, there is brewing resentment within the ruling National Conference with senior politicians showing total dissatisfaction over the working of the Government. According to sources the resentment over the style of functioning of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah is not in the Congress Party whose leaders are voicing their serious concern in party meetings showing their total displeasure over sidelining of the party leadership on various important issues by Chief Minister, but within NC the senior leadership as well as grass root level worker also feel alienated due to the style of functioning of Mr Abdullah. Sources said that recently one of the senior party functionaries from Kashmir Valley during an inner party meeting had disclosed to his old party friends that NC could deliver goods in much better way and come to the expectation of the masses once it gets rid of dynastic rule. ``The senior functionary has also made it clear to his party colleagues that if the reigns of power are transferred to any senior functionary of the party other than Abdullah family the situation will improve to a great extent in Kashmir as the Party’s mass base has eroded in the Valley as its top class leadership comes from a particular family while the people who gave their sweat and blood to the party for decades together have been ignored. Sources said the main reason of concern among the senior party functionaries in NC is that they feel totally neglected as Mr Abdullah is dependent on his inexperienced coterie and this step will prove suicidal for the NC. Ignoring the leadership which has over 50 years experience in active politics and taking the advice of the in-experienced people who don’t have any base in public is eroding the Party image as well as has led to rumblings in NC, sources added. Sources said that one of the senior party leaders from Kashmir had also made his displeasure against the style of functioning of the Chief Minister known to NC patriarch and Union Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah in Union Capital recently and told him in unequivocal terms that such way of working by the Chief Minister will prove inimical to Party interests and also tarnish its image and mass base in Kashmir. Appreciating the concern shown by the senior functionary Dr Abdullah however showed his inability to put the things right, sources said, adding the Chief Minister has also stripped the powers of his senior colleague in the party who reportedly was frontrunner for the Chief Minister’s post after the Chief Minster had shown his willingness to tender his resignation last year in the event some charges leveled by PDP leader and former Minister Muzzafar Hussain Baig against him. Sources said the statements of former NC Minister against the Congress leadership are also a reflection of the brewing rebellion in the Party as the senior leaders are hell bent to sabotage the functioning of the coalition Government by creating controversies on each and every issue. Sources said with the total dependence of the Chief Minister on his young coterie the senior NC leaders and ministers feel totally suffocated in the party while the Congress ministers who too have been given a raw deal by Chief Minister are cursing their lot and recalling the role of former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Syed tenure who took Congress as well as NPP and independents along in running the coalition successfully.
