| Jammu observes peaceful bandh | | | Jammu, Nov 06 : A complete but peaceful bandh paralyzed the normal life in Jammu here today on the very first day of re-opening of Civil secretariat in winter capital of the State. Maximum business establishments remained closed while the public transport also did not ply. Call for bandh was given by BJP and Refugee United Front while a number of other organizations had also extended their support to it in protest against alleged neglect of Jammu region by the congress-led coalition government. Elaborate security arrangements had been done in the city, particularly around the Civil Secretariat which also houses the State Assembly. Activists of different political parties and social organizations were seen taking out separate processions in the city and enforcing the bandh. At some places, the protesters also torched effigies of the State Government. However, no untoward incident was reported throughout the day and the bandh passed off peacefully. Attendance in Government offices and educational institutions was very thin as public transport remained off the road and people were seen approaching their destination on foot. Though the private vehicles were seen plying maximum people preferred to remain inside the doors. Normal work in J&K High Court as well as subordinate courts also got completely paralyzed as the Jammu Bar Association had also extended active support to the call for bandh. |
