CGPWA observes World Pensioners’ Day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 17: Central Government Pensioners’ Welfare Association (CGPWA), J&K representing pensioners of over 19 Central Government Departments/Ministeries held World Pensioners’ Day function in Jammu Club here today. December 17 is celebrated as a Day of Pensioners all over the world. Prof M R Puri, former Vice Chancellor Jammu University was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The function was attended by a large number of Association members and special invitees from various organizations of State Government pensioners; besides social activists. J K Vaid, General Secretary CGPWA conducted the proceeding of the function. After welcome address by the President SS Wazir; VP Sharma gave a power point presentation on the activities of the Association, particularly for the welfare of old infirm pensioners like paying visits to them and resolving their pending pension issues etc. Such proactive gestures serve as a great help and morale booster to the elderly pensioners who cannot attend our weekly meetings due to health problems. Two resolutions were also adopted on World Pensioners’ Day; one expressing solidarity with the State Government Pensioners regarding early payment of their sixth pay commission arrears in one installment and the second for awarding pension to the elders of Mazdoor Kissan unorganized labour sector. Such schemes have been implemented by some states like Haryana. Prof Puri in his address lauded the efforts being put in by the Association for the general welfare of the civil society with special attention to the pensioners. He extended his good wishes and blessings to the Association and all those present after narrating some interesting incidents in his long career of celebrated educationist of J&K.
