Troops told to plug infiltration routes on LoC, IB | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 17:Following reports that the American Government has mounted pressure on Pakistan to demolish terror infrastructure within the country fears have mounted in Jammu and Kashmir over the possibility of agencies across the border pushing more groups of terrorists into the state. Informed sources said that the American President, Barack Obama, has, while appreciating Islamabad's cooperation in war against terror, urged Pakistan to deal firmly with terrorist bases set up on the Pak-Afghan border belt. These sources said that if Islamabad further buckled under the US pressure and started operations against the terrorists some groups of them could sneak into Jammu and Kashmir to escape elimination by the Pakistani forces. Reports said that agencies across the border are already worried over the continued operations the security forces have launched against the militants in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the Jammu region. If the recent statement of the Inspector General police, Jammu range, Ashok Gupta is to be relied on militants were on the run in the Jammu region because of offensive launched against them by the security forces. This development is said to have activated agencies across the LOC and these agencies had formulated a plan of pushing groups of militants into Jammu and Kashmir to give a fillip to the subversive activities, which during the last three months have declined to a large extent. The state authorities besides the intelligence agencies have conveyed to the Army authorities that there was need for further upgrading the security and surveillance on the entire LOC and the Internal Border in the Jammu sector in order to foil infiltration bids. The troops, guarding the border, have been directed to retaliate in ample measures any incident in which the Pakistani forces opened fire on the Indian pickets and posts for carving out safe passage for the militants. The troops have been told to initiate adequate measures for plugging all the routes that were being used by the militants for infiltrating into Jammu and Kashmir.
