12/18/2010 12:15:57 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, DEC 17: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has come down heavily upon the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his comments on the WikiLeaks cables that made a revelation regarding alleged human rights violations in Kashmir in 2005. Making a scathing attack the PDP chief today said the chief minister should be the last man to speak on the issue, as he has converted the valley into a prison.
"Omar should be last man to speak on the issue concerning WikiLeaks disclosure about tortures in Kashmir. He has converted the Kashmir Valley into a prison," PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti told reporters.Reminding Omar of the recent unrest and the incidents of HR violations during his regime, Mehooba said even as militancy has now declined but the present government has broken all records of HR violations by making innocent arrests of hundreds of people , killing over 100 perosns in continuous spell besides rendering a large population injured.
Though chief minister Omar Abdullah today distanced himself from the WikiLeaks cable emanating from the US embassy in Delhi but he indirectly blamed the then government, led by opposition PDP.Losing no time to react, Mehbooba said it was PDP that inherited Jammu and Kashmir when militancy was at its peak.
"We nourished Kashmir with the healing touch policy. The then PDP-Congress government led by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed brought tremendous improvement in the security situation, militancy and ended the fear of surrendered militants, STFs and POTAs," she said.
