Katra declared as Civil Defence town | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 18: In a major development to expand the reach of Civil Defence and minimize the impact of any mishaps in the base camp of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji Shrine, the Government has declared Katra as Civil Defence town. The Additional Director General of Police, Home Guard, Civil Defence, Aux. Police, J&K, S. Gopal Reddy announced this here today while giving effect to the appointment of Chief and Deputy Chief Wardens for Katra town at an awareness function organized by Civil Defence Unit Udhampur in the premises of Government Higher Secondary School, Katra. " Now onwards clear visibility and procedural norms for preventing instances like man made and natural calamities would be carefully undertaken", Reddy said and added that the shrine often records mishaps like land slides and stone shedding which results in loss of life and property. The activity of the civil defence would also prevail upon such calamities and accordingly chart out modalities for minimizing the impact of such accidents, he said. The ADGP further inform that to make the civil defence movement more vibrant in the holy town, a comprehensive plan would be chalked out in consultation with the authorities of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji Shrine Board and District police Reasi. He also announced one-week awareness training programme for civil defence volunteers at Katra. Post Warden, Advocate Swatantra Dev Kotwal conducted the proceeding of the programme in a most proficient manner. R. S Manhas and Deputy Controller Civil Defence, Bodh Raj (DSP) presented welcome address and vote of thanks respectively. Additional Chief Executive Officer, SMVDSB, M. K Bhandari, Divisional Commandant Civil Defence, Abdul Gani Choudhary, Additional SP, Katra, Shiv Kumar, prominent member of civil society, teachers and students in large number were present on the occasion.
