Cong High Command not to take action against Sham | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 18 :-The Congress High Command is likely to avoid taking any action against the Health Minister, Sham Lal Sharma, for his recent statements on Kashmir and on discrimination against Jammu region. Party sources said that the Congress high command has been clearly conveyed that any action against Sham Lal could trigger serious problems for the Congress in its traditional base of the Jammu region. Reports said that senior party functionaries in Delhi discussed the issue twice and decided to let Sharma off after a warning. Sources said Sharma's stand against continued discrimination of Jammu region had widened the political base of the Health Minister. He and his brother, Madan Lal Sharma, have mustered support during the last three weeks in the Jammu region. A number of senior party leaders belonging to the camp of loyalists said that the dissidents had stepped up campaign against Shar ma with the hope that his sacking could pave way for a leader belonging to the dissidents to get a berth in the cabinet. They said “we have conveyed to the party high command that any action against Sharma could cause major erosion in the congress in the Jammu region." They cited several instances where Sham Lal Sharma has been getting tumultuous welcome by people even during wedding ceremonies and other social functions. The loyalists have urged the party high command that if any action was required to be taken it should be taken against the dissidents who had been weakening the Congress in the state.
