Army saves precious Lives by timely intervention

Jammu, Dec 18:A fire broke out in the vicinity of the village Khutran besides a local mosque yesterday.
The wind and dry firewood aggravated the ferocity of fire turning it into an inferno.
The fire gradually engulfed a large part of the village. Seeing the smoke, an Army Column immediately rushed to the spot with fire fighting equipment and medical team and salvage equipment. The parties cordoned off the village and initiated action to douse the fire and saved lives and property.
Troops first entered the mosque and took out the Holy Quran. Meanwhile, fire tenders and additional water bowers of fire department and the Army from Dawar were also rushed to spot.
Additional teams were also inducted to assist in crowd control and evacuation of civilians from the house in near proximity of fire. The fire fighting parties also helped the fire brigade personnel to activate their fire engines. The timely and courageous action by the
troops helped in controlling the ferocity of fire thereby saved ten houses in the village and prevented loss of life and property. Follow up aid is being provided to the displaced villagers in terms of rehabilitation stores to include tents, tarpaulins, bedding and
blankets. The villagers are being provided meals and medical treatment as required. The Army as immediate relief distributed a monetary assistance of Rs 25,000/-. This humanitarian step taken by the Army during the period of crisis has further cemented the existing bond between the Army and the Awam in the Gurez Valley.
The Divisional Commissioner, Srinagar conveyed his appreciation to the Army, paramilitary and civil police for the commendable job done. Village Khutran has a population of approximate three hundred people living mostly as joint families. The village covers an area of five hundred square meters having approximately 25 houses made of wood and hatch, which are highly inflamable. The main occupation of the people
is farming and livestock rearing.
