A meeting of J&K Kashyap Bhandu Committee (JKKBC) was held on Saturday to commemorate the 25th death anniversary of late Pt. Kashyap Bandhu under the chairmanship of its president V.K Kashmiri. A large number of admirers of the late leader from all walks of life attended the function in Jammu. The speakers paid rich tributes to him. They recounted his contribution to the uplifting of the community in different fields. The participants hailed him as one of the greatest leaders of the Kashmiri Pandits, a great reformer, visionary, an acclaimed politician, a nationalist bold freedom fighter and a renowned journalist. On the occasion various problems of the community came under discussion especially the decreasing population. The declining population of KP’s is a matter of great concern. The community is facing the problem because of migration, inhospitable climatic conditions, acute nostalgia, uncertain future and above all excess use of family planning methods. A general call was given to the community to adopt two-child norm. The members resolved to institute an annual Award of Motherhood for those mothers who have more than two children. The Award will consist of a “Certificate of Honour” and substantial cash amount. This resolution was passed unanimously in view of alarming decrease in population of the Kashmiri Pandits. The members felt greatly concerned when a UNO Report was presented before the members, which show Kashmiri Pandit Community one of the vanishing communities of the world.
