12/18/2010 9:49:13 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 18: Accusing chief minister Omar Abdullah of betraying Pahari community of Jammu and Kashmir by making hollow promises during the 2008 elections, the Pahari Cultural and Welfare Forum (PCWF), an NGO, has mulled to expose all those responsible for playing with the sentiments of the community.
Speaking at a session of the PCWF, its chairman Sharafat Ali Khan alleged that the vote bank politics of certain political parties has done irreparable damage to the Pahari community.
Referring to his meetings with the Omar Abdullah during Assembly elections 2008, Sharafat recalled that Omar, when reminded of promises made by his father and grandfather which went unfulfilled had assured that he would stand by his commitments and resolve the issues of Pahari community if voted to power. He said Omar Abdullah had sought the support of Pahari community in several key assembly constituencies which was responded by the community with great generosity based on his assurance. Sharafat, who chaired the meeting, said after taking over reins of power as chief minister Omar did nothing to keep his promises and was never sincere towards the community. He stated that Pahari Advisory Board which was supposed to work for the development and welfare of the community has been reduced to an institution for accommodating chief minister’s cronies and NC loyalists and it has ceased to serve its purpose. He said Pahari community has realized that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has made false promises to win the support of Pahari community during the assembly elections.
The meeting which was attended by several legislators and senior Pahari leaders also reposed full faith and confidence in the organization set up of the forum headed by Sharafat Ali Khan and also decided to launch a mass contact programme to make the forum more inclusive and representative in character.
