| Shoddy construction leads to Kargil House collapse, 2 dead | | | JAMMU: Shoddy construction and material substitution, done under the supervision of PWD Kargil agency, today led to the collapse of the prestigious Kargil House roof at Chhani Rama near Narwal here, resulting in the instant death of two labourers.
An AEE, a work supervisor and a sub-contractor were arrested by police in this connection, police sources said.The incident took place in the under construction Kargil House at
Chhani Rama at about 4.30 pm, the sources added. After the roof collpased, the debris fell on two labourers as a result of which they were killed.
The dead were identified as Mohan Sahu (24) and Sanju Yadav (22), both residents of Orissa.
The work was alloted by PWD to a Kargil contractor, who had further sub-let it to another contractor, whom sources identified as Sunil. Sources said the Narwal police had arrested Sunil, PWD AEE Shampal Gupta and work supervisor Akhtar Hussain.
A hunt was on for the main contractor, the sources added. Sources said intitial inquiry into the incident revealed that poor quality material was used in the construction of the building.
