| Rally taken out for freedom of press | | | ET Report
Jammu,Dec 18: A rally was today taken out by B B Institute of Journalism and Mass Communication (BBIJMC) in support of freedom of press.
The rally was jointly taken out by the students of BBIJMC and other educational institutions.
The rally, which started from Raghunath temple, culminated at City chowk.
Talking to reporters covering the event, social activist Deep Singh said this was a good step taken by the students for independent press in J&K and their endeavour ought to be appreciated by one and all.
A BBIMCJ student said the authorities wanted to curb the press and tame it through oppressive measures. He took a strong exception to such an autocratic government approach.
He said the strengthening of journalism would ultimately lead to the strengthening of democracy. Other students said instead of gagging the press, the government should allow it to flourish in a free atmosphere. |
