Stoppage of ad revenue by govt unfortunate, speaks of hollow claims: Mehbooba | | | ET REPORT Jammu, Dec 18: The NC led coalition government today came in for sharp criticism from the main opposition party president Mehbooba Mufti, this time for the cause of upholding the spirit of democracy. With more and more right thinking people from different walks of life including politicians deploring the government for muzzling fourth estate, Mehbooba Mufti also made a scathing attack on the coalition for not even sparing the media in its discriminatory policies. "It is unfortunate that newspapers are being victimised by the government for highlighting truth and loopholes in its functioning........the attitude of stopping advertsiments speaks of hollowness in the claims which this government makes in respect of believing in freedom of press", the PDP chief said. All these tactcis are not only unfair but reflect the double standards of the government in not allowing the largest pillar of the democracy function independently, Mehbooba said adding that government must shun its oppressive and repressive approach so that the newspapers can act as mirror of every aspect of its functioning. Regretting the tactcis of Information Department in having stopped advertisements to ET newspaper, she said this was indeed condemnable and it must ensure fair and equal distribution of ads to all the papers as per the norms instead of being selective and discriminatory.
