Is CM really insensitive to peoples' problems?

Early Times Report
Jammu,Dec 18: Central Government's chief interlocuter, Dileep Padgaonkar, has described the Omar Abdullah led Government as "inefficient and inept" as far as its dealing with the problems of people is concerned. He has, in an interview, described Omar Abdullah as insensitive to the problems of the people. If a seasoned journalist like Padgaonkar has come to this conclusion it is not the outcome of his day dreaming. Neither it is the result of his bias against Omar Abdullah because the two have never crossed swords in the past.
If Padgaonkar has come to the conclusion that Omar Abdullah was insensitive and inefficient he has formed this opinion after he had detailed meetings with a cross section of people, including students, traders and politicians. He should have formed this opinion on the basis of what he could gather during his interaction with people of various political and ideological hues.
In support of Padgaonkar's contention one would like to cite the instance of Omar Abdullah's taste for muzzling the freedom of press as an instance of his inefficiency and insensitivity. One English daily has been singled out for a raw deal in the shape of ban on release of advertisements to it. The fault of the newspaper management had been that it refused to publish Chief Minister's pictures on its page one. Those who run the affairs of the Department of information and those who are supposed to advise Omar Abdullah are said to be behind the stoppage of advertisements to the Early Times.
During the last three weeks a number of senior political leaders besides those heading various unions and associations have issued statements condemning the Government act. They have described the decision of the Government to stop release of advertisements to the Early Times as an assault on freedom of press. But the Government in general and the Chief Minister in particular are insensitive to the criticism. Inside reports said that Omar may or may not be insensitive to peoples' problem but he is ignorant of certain basic developments. It is so because like his grandfather and father he does not read newspapers. He has not read Early Times and hence he does not know what the BJP, the PDP, the Panthers Party, the CPIM and other political and social organisations have said about the ban on release of advertisements to Early Times.
Again like his grandfather and father Omar gets hints of political and economic developments in the state and in the country from the people who have been giving him wrong information. Omar Abdullah is in favour of keeping his ears open to what his adviser tells him but shuts his eyes when he is supposed to watch events and developments.
Possibly he may not be knowing that release of Government advertisements to the Early Times has been stopped because neither the information Department nor his adviser has told him about it. Those who do not believe it need to refer to Omar Abdullah's ignorance about the Government's failure in utilising even 30 per cent of the Rs. 6,000 crore annual plan. Padgaonkar has already referred to it when he criticised the NC led Government for poor utilisation of central funds on various development projects. It is a case of inefficiency on the part of the Chief Minister because in the Kashmir valley the working season has ended and it was to end in the Jammu region within next three months.
Well the Government is not bothered about it. The Chief Minister and his adviser are not worried over the poor utilisation of funds. They are worried about the role of those newspapers that do not act as the Government's mouthpiece.
