| Gulzaar’s ‘Ravi Paar’ staged by Natrang | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Dec 19: ‘Ravi Paar’- based on the story of Gulzaar was staged here today at Natrang’s weekly programme ‘Sunday Theatre.
Acted and devised by, Deepak Virdi and directed by Neeraj Kant, the play outshined for its perfection in all its creative departments.
“Ravi Paar” is the story of India at the time of partition. Religious fanatics of both sides showed no mercy on anyone who didn’t believed in their religion, which was neither Hinduism nor Islam they all practiced religion of hatred.
The narrator who himself performs the lead character of the play talks about the country and its partition the afterglow of which continues to this day. After partition Darshan Singh and his family, takes asylum in a nearby Gurudwara. They spend their days there listening to all kind of rumors about the things happening outside.
Amidst all the chaos ‘Shahni’ gives birth to twins but one of the twins born was very weak and had very bleak chances of survival.
Meanwhile Darshan Singh gets the news of arrival of special train from India which has arrived to carry people back to the country where they were supposed to live now for rest of there lives. Darshan Singh leaves Gurudwara and reaches station in a rush only to find out train was extremely over crowded, somehow he finds some space for himself and his family on the top of train.
After the night falls and train leaves the Station Darshan Singh notices that one of the kid was no longer moving and was cold realizing that the kid was dead he started wailing in consternation. People nearby tried taking the dead kid away from ‘Shahni’ but the shocked mother refused to let go of the dead kid.
As the train passed over the river Ravi amidst all the clamor and building anticipation of the crowd about reaching back home, someone whispered in Darshan Singh’s ear that he should toss the dead kid into the river. Feeling helpless he quietly takes the kid away from ‘Shahni’ and tosses the kid into the river only to find out that ‘Shahni’ was still embracing the dead kid…..
Deepak Virdi as an actor was highly successful in evoking emotional response of the audience. The lights were done by Mohit Sharma and sound was designed by Rohit Verma.. The presentations were done by Vikram Sharma.
