| Walkovers mark beginning of handball, lawn tennis events | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, December 20: Opening day of the annual inter-college competitions in men’s handball and lawn tennis events ended in walkovers at different venues, here today.
Earlier, the lawn tennis event was declared open at GGM Science College courts by Director Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau while Principal, GGM Science College was guest of honour.
Both the scheduled matches on inaugural day ended in walkovers. While host GGM Science College got walkover KC Law College, last year’s runners-up, MAM College awarded walkover after Government Degree College Udhampur failed to report.
In all, eight affiliated colleges of JU have confirmed their entries for the four-day lawn tennis event.
HANDBALL: None of three scheduled matches in men’s inter-college handball competitions could take place on day one at JU grounds, here today.
In the first match, both Government Degree College Bhaderwah and Dogra Law College teams failed to report. In other matches of the day, Trikuta Degree College got walkover Government Degree College Kathua while Government SPMR College of Commerce awarded walkover Government Degree College Udhampur.
