DYSS `avoids’ state competition | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 20: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) has forgot to conduct inter-division state level competition and in turn straightway held trials to select state teams for different events of National School Games. Making it purely an internal exercise, the department conducts trail matches to pick up teams at different venues, here. Presently, the Department is conducting selection trials in under-14 (boys) cricket, kho-kho under-17 (boys and girls), handball under-14 (boys and girls) and basketball under-14) (boys and girls). The Department hardly has any selection committee authorized to pick up the teams. However, the Deputy Director (Central), Gulshan Ara accompanied by district officer (Jammu), Jai Raj finalized the teams. “Without a proper selection committee that too having experts in the concerned game, a fair trail is not possible. So, the officer concerned must name selection committee well in advance to select state teams, else hold state level tournaments,” pleading anonymity an official deputed in trials told SAN. He further said, “Presence of higher officials at the venue is fine, but their undue interference is something unjustified. An officer can be expert in one event, but he cannot be specialist in every discipline”. The selection trials were officiated by Narinder Kumar, Satpal Singh, Mukesh Sharma, Mokshi Bali, Jyoti Sharma, Gourav Sharma, Sanjay Jamwal, Suraj Dev Singh, Shefali, Vishal Bharti, Vineet Pangotra and Ravinder Singh. Meanwhile, during one such selection trials at Mini Stadium Parade, Deputy Director, Gulsahn Ara said, “We need not to disclose you the selection committee, even if we have, because it is something internal”.
