Setting of industrial estate at Ghati opposed | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 20: J&K State Pollution Control Board conducted Public Hearing on establishing of Industrial Estate by SIDCO at Ghati District Kathua . More than hundred progressive farmers, environmentialist, wildlife protectionists, NGO’s, aromatic and medicinal plant growers, various social activists, ex-servicemen and representative of Gujjars and Bakerwals participated in one day public hearing at village Dawal near Ghati District Kathua, J&K and strongly opposed the establishment of Industrial Estate in the area which will spoil the environment and ecology of the beautiful mountainous region . While addressing the meeting called by the J&K pollution board near Ghati Former Minister and NCP chief Thakur Randhir Singh said as the returns are very high in growing Aromatic and medicinal plants if the central and state Govt hold the farmers hand for a couple of years after providing 40 % subsidy like US ,China and Thailand , he will learn to walk. Singh said vegetation of wide range which constituted of high therapeutic value having great demand in the global market has mercilessly been destroyed by the SIDCO to establish an industrial estate by snatching the fertile , irrigated land by tubewell having deep profile , suitable for commercial cultivation of various vegetation and flora.
