Srinagar, Nov 5 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti has said great opportunities were round the corner to rid the people of Jammu and Kashmir of the scourge of violence and give them the much-needed peace and prosperity.
Addressing a day-long party convention at Khimber, Harwan, she said Jammu and Kashmir has to play a pivotal role in the region's political and economic scenario.
Describing the self-rule formula vital and acceptable to the people of all the regions, Ms Mufti said the time has come to put an end to the pestering conflict and avert further destruction of life and prosperity in the state.
''Fortunately, all the sides have now realised that their stated positions on the issue are not realistic and compromises will have to be made to workout a mutually agreeable solution of this intricate problem,'' she added.
The PDP president said no political party or group in the state could afford to keep aloof at this crucial juncture and have to contribute towards strengthening the ongoing peace process that would ultimately lead to the peaceful and permanent settlement of the vexed Kashmir issue.
