| J&K Deputy CM calls for probe into attack on NC leader | | | Srinagar, July 28: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig today said he would appeal to Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to order a magisterial or judicial probe into the recent attack on national conference leader Sakina Ittoo at Kulgam.
"Our request to the Chief Minister shall be to order a magisterial or judicial probe into the attack on Ittoo at Kulgam earlier this month in which five persons including a former Legislator Ghulam Nabi Dar were killed," Baig said once in the state assembly.
Earlier, leader of opposition and National Conference leader Abdul Rahim Rather demanded an inquiry into the attack on Ittoo, a call echoed by CPI(M) leader M Y Tarigami.
People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Aziz Zargar, who has been accused by National Conference of orchestrating the attacks on Ittoo claimed that three of the persons, including Dar, killed in the Kulgam attack were his relatives.
Zargar said that no politician could stoop so low as to attack fellow politicians.
Congress leader Mangat Ram Sharma said that the security of political leaders and activists should be reviewed by a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister.
Wherever there are loopholes or drawbacks, these need to be removed, he said.
Baig also appealed to all political parties to fight terror unitedly and stop pointing fingers at each other.
The Deputy Minister welcomed Azad, Dilawar Mir, Mustafa Kamal and Mohammad Shoiab lone who took part in assembly proceedings for the first time after winning the April bypoll.
