Jammu Muslims opposed to Azadi, autonomy, demand political empowerment | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 20: Rejection of demands like Azadi, merger with Pakistan, self rule and greater autonomy by people of twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch which have predominantly the Muslim population has given a major setback to secessionist movement of Kashmir. Not only the Hindu Population of the twin border districts but the Muslims of Rajouri and Poonch have also rejected the slogans of Azadi, merger with Pakistan, greater autonomy and self rule. The several delegations of the people who called on interlocutors on Kashmir during their two day visit to the border districts made it clear to them that they (the people of twin districts) have nothing to do with the so-called movement in Kashmir and the Government should pay attention in redressing the problems of the people of this border belt and hilly range who have been ignored by successive governments since 1947. Mohammed Sharief Nomani chairman Rajouri -Poonch Development Front who called on the interlocutors at Poonch two days back has told them in clear terms that people of this border districts are Indians by core and they have nothing to do with the cheap and catchy slogans of Azadi and merger with Pakistan given by separatists in Kashmir. He also demanded ending of discrimination with the twin districts. Same have been the views of Mohammed Aslam Kohli general secretary of the Front . He, while outrightly rejecting the demand of Azadi, merger with Pakistan, autonomy and self rule said the people of the two districts have never supported the Pro Pak and Azadi elements. `` The people of these two districts did not become stone pelters also and still they have been ignored ’’. he added. Demanding the delimitation of constituencies he said the Jammu has less representation in Assembly than Kashmir though it has more territory and population than the Valley. Through delimitation the Jammu be given political empowerment, he added. He also strongly advocated for inviting Gujjars, Bakerwals and border area people in the talks who are the most sufferers since 1947. The people of Jammu region including Muslims have given lot of sacrifice in fighting militancy in the state and they deserve to be given priority. If Government is sincere to the resolution of prevailing crisis in the state it should give a serious thought to the demands put forth by the people of Rajouri and Poonch districts, he said. No decision will be acceptable to Jammu Muslims which ignores the aspirations of the people of Jammu region, said Mohammed Azam Meelu another member of the Front. The Government should not take our sacrifices for granted and give preference to Kashmir region, he added.
