PDP seeks jobs for local youth in power projects | `Give adequate compensation to Ramban residents’ | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, December 22: Charging National Conference led regime with adopting different yardsticks for different regions, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today threatened to come on roads if adequate compensation was not given to the residents of Ramban district whose land and residential structures have been acquired by the authorities for widening of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway. While demanding proper rehabilitation for the affected families of this district, party asked the government to provide alternate land to the families whose houses as well as land has been acquired. Addressing a one day convention of the district committee members of district Ramban, PDP leaders took the coalition to task for its anti-people policies. Party leaders pointed out that residents of Ramban district, whose land has been acquired for the widening of national highway, were not given adequate compensation. They further pointed out that compensation given in the other parts of the State was four times more than the compensation being given to the residents of Ramban district. The leaders flayed the coalition regime for adopting different yardsticks for different people and warned that PDP would not remain a mute spectator to these discriminatory policies. “We would not hesitate to take some extreme step to get this discrimination removed”, they asserted and warned that party would take this issue on streets to force the authorities to give adequate compensation to the people of Ramban at par with the residents of other parts of the State. Coming down heavily on coalition regime for its failure to create job avenues for the unemployed youth of the State, PDP leaders strongly demanded that local skilled and unskilled youth should be adjusted in the developmental projects being executed in this belt. They further demanded that local unemployed youth should be given priority in recruitment in the hydro electric projects to solve the problem of unemployment in this belt. “As Baglihar phase second and Sawalakot projects are being constructed in Ramban district, locals should be given priority in employment and other opportunities”, they demanded and warned against engaging workers from outside for these projects. “Instead of importing workers from outside, local youth of Ramban district should be trained to fulfill the requirement of skilled workers”, they suggested and again warned the State Government against ignoring local youth in recruitment process and other employment opportunities. They further said that Ramban district has huge tourism potential but nothing concrete has been done so far to explore the same. Exhorting the party workers to spread message of party in every corner of the State PDP leader said that present dispensation has lost faith of the people due to its failure on all fronts. They further called upon the workers to effectively take up problems of the common masses for redressal. Prominent among those who addressed the meeting included vice president Trilok Singh Bajwa, general secretary Balbir Singh, Asgar Ali, MLC, Murtaza Khan, MLC, Falail Singh, Hussain Ali Wafa, Ved Mahajan, Daman Bhasin, Shanti Devi, R K Bali, Farooq Mir, ex-MLA, Abdul Ahad Wani, district president Ramban, Bahar Ahmed Runiyal, Imtiyaz Khandey, Showkat Daing, state general secretary youth wing PDP, Shamshad Shan and others.
