| VOJ unearths MT TMT purchase scam | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, December: 22 (JNF):- The State Vigilance Organization has unearthed scam of purchase 4000 Mt TMT Bars by Store Procurement Dept on highly exorbitant rates.
Vigilance Organization registered a case against then Chief Engineer/ Director Store Procurement Dept J&K MA Malik, M/S Jehulm Steel Industry Samba, Kashmir Steel Rolling Mills Bari-Brahamana & Ors u/s 120-B RPC r/w section 5(1) (d), 5(2) J&K PC Act 2006 and started investigation in the case.
According to the SVO, during check found that MA Malik then Chief Engineer/Director SPD J&K issued NIT dated April 24, 2009 for purchase of item viz TMT Bars. The Director SPD J&K subsequently issued supply orders for purchase of 4000 Mt TMT bar FE-500D in favour of M/S Jehlum Industries Samba & Kashmir Steel Rolling Mills Bari-Brahamana. The supplies received were subjected to test check through SICOP Jammu which found that supplied item did not confirm to the specification mentioned in the supply orders. However, Director Store Procure Dept in league with accused Public Servants & Ors with criminal intent subsequently managed the procurement of the supplied items against the payment. During the check period SVO further found that as a part of criminal conspiracy, the accused Director Issued willfully NIT for purchase of FE 500 instead of FE 500-D to facilitate the purchase TMT bars had been manufactured from ingots (substandard material) instead of billets which did not conform to the composition of TMT Bar mentioned in NIT.
SVO after inquiry during the check period has registered a case against above mentioned peoples and started investigation in the case. JNF
