With apathetic Govt, fate of Physiotherapy graduates hangs in balance

JAMMU, Dec 22: While the state government has openly declared that they have no jobs for the physiotherapists in Jammu and Kashmir, the fate of two batches studying the course at Government Medical College (GMC) also hangs in balance.
The two batches inducted through the common entrance test in 2006 and 2007 are just months away from completing the degree.
According to sources in year 2006-07 the government started this course in GMC, Jammu, but due to the lack of infrastructure the government has close this course after two batches, in which there are 21 students of 2006 batch and 28 in 2007.
In the recent statement of Minister for Medical Education R S Chib said that the students who are undergoing physiotherapy course from GMC, Jammu will only get a recognized degree of it and the state government is not responsible for the jobs placement in government sector, as there is no post created by the government for the physiotherapist graduates.
A physiotherapist graduate on the condition of anonymity said that if there is no post in the government sector for physiotherapist, then why the government has given recognition to the private colleges for physiotherapy courses.
One of the student who is undergoing B. Ph T from GMC Jammu prefer anonymity said that we are willing to support the protesting physiotherapist, but the administration force us not to do so and threaten us that if we support them they will take action against us.
Meanwhile a member of Jammu Kashmir Physiotherapist Association (JKPA) Dr Vimal Manhas said that on our 30th consecutive day of agitation, the police cane charged us when the members of JKPA were going to meet Governor in Raj Bhavan.
He further said that the injured including about 8 girls and 9 boys who were shifted to GMC to treatment.
He further said that we have permission from higher authorities to stop them for any protest. And we will not allow them for any protest until we got permission from higher authorities.
