Take a holistic view of Jammu region's neglect: Harsh to Task Force
12/22/2010 10:25:29 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 22: Harsh Dev Singh, Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) MLA and its working Chairman has invited the attention of the visiting 'Task Force' towards the most hostile discrimination doled out to Jammu region in multifarious sectors including development projects, devolution of funds, Employment opportunities, share in professional institutions besides glaring in-equality in the number of Assembly and Parliament seats.
Harsh Dev Singh said that the issue of Jammu's neglect and deprivation is a universally acknowledged fact with even the ministers of the ruling coalition candidly admitting the same though expressing their helplessness at the same time.
Harsh Dev Singh pointed out that the most obnoxious and inglorious feature of Jammu's neglect was the fact that despite its contribution of 76% to the tax resources of the State, it got barley 25 to 30% share of the developmental funds of the state. He said the imbalance in political power was the major cause for all economic imbalances and sought equal number of Assembly and Parliament seats so as to put an end to the vicious cycle of discrimination perpetuated by arbitrariness in the allocation of higher no of Assembly seats to Kashmir.
Strongly pleading for an exclusive developmental package for Jammu region, Harsh Dev Singh sought adequate funds for creation of rural infrastructure in the form of improved road connectivity, power distribution network, Development of Health infrastructure, Irrigation and water supply schemes, with priority to tourism promotion in the region.
Harsh Dev Singh sought a special grant of Rs 500 crore for Development of Mansar, Surinsar and Dalsar lakes in view of huge tourism potential of the area and tremendous scope for the development of the said lakes. Likewise he sought adequate funds for Mubarak Mandi- Bahu-Maha Maya cable car project with a view to give a fillip to religious tourism in this city of temples.
Harsh Dev Singh further sought a special Employment package for Jammu region so as to undo the anomalies in the Employment sector. He regretted that whereas the Govt has formulated a scheme for re-habilitation of militants the unemployed youth of Jammu region were being forced to resort to dharnas and demonstrations.
