| Classical vocal recital programme in JU | | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER JAMMU | NOV 6 Department of Students Welfare (DSW), University of Jammu (JU) in collaboration with the Society for promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC-MACAY) today organized a programme of classical vocal recital by noted classical singer Shanti Sharma of Kirana gharana at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium, JU. The programme was presided over by Prof. Amitabh Mattoo, Vice Chancellor JU. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Mattoo lauded the joint efforts of DSW and SPIC-MACAY towards propagation of Indian culture and music amongst the youth. Appreciating Shanti Sharma, Mattoo said that she has carved a special niche for herself in the world of classical music on the sheer dint of her talent. Mattoo assured that such kind of events will continue to be organized in campus for the enlightenment of youth. Shanti Sharma, who hails from Kirana Gharana, mesmerized the audience with her melodious voice. Earlier, Shanti Sharma while delivering a Lecture-cum-Demonstration, emphasized upon the need to inculcate the classical values of Indian culture among the youth to preserve the cultural values of ancient India. She also lauded the project taken up by SPIC-MACAY to promote the Indian culture and music among the youth of nation. She extended her full support for the preservation of Indian culture. Among others present on the occasion were Dr. P S Pathania, Dean Student Welfare, Prof. Davinder Singh, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. N R Sharma, Chairman Campus Cultural Committee.
