| PG retains inter-college lawn tennis trophy | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, December 23: The combined side of Post Graduate (PG) Departments of University of Jammu today retained the inter-college lawn tennis trophy outplaying Government MAM College 2-1 in the final played at GGM Science College courts, here.
Earlier, in the opening singles match, Kartik Gupta made a good start against Mutarif Bilal Butt but could not maintain his quality play and lost the game 4-7. Later, Abhik Gupta helped PG level the score 1-1 beating Arjun Sharma of MAM 7-1 in the second singles.
However, PG won the deciding doubles when Abhik and Sanjay Singh trounced the pair of Mutarif and Arjun thereby making it a 2-1 win for the team.
In the final and prize distribution function, Director Sports and Physical Education, JU, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau was chief guest, who gave away winners’ trophy to PG Departments. Principal of the host college, Dr MS Baloria presided over the function.
The final was officiated by Ravish Vaid and Sandeep under the supervision of Ramesh Magotra.
MAM again wins handball trophy
Government MAM College won the second consecutive handball title in the inter-college tournament played at University of Jammu grounds, here. In the final, played today, MAM defeated Government SPMR College of Commerce 29-26 in a closely fought contest.
The score was leveled at 14-14 at the end of first half of the play. Ashish Sharma scored maximum 16 goals and played an important role for the winners.
Final besides others was witnessed by Director Sports and Physical Education, Prof Dhian Singh.
