Soz to continue to lead Congress in J&K | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 23 - Despite having mounted pressure on the Congress high command the dissidents led by the union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, are said to have lost their battle against the PCC Chief, Saif-ud-Din Soz. Reports said that the party high command wants Soz to continue to lead the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir. According to reports, the dissidents had projected Abdul Gani Vakil as an ideal choice for replacing Soz but the Congress high command sees a better choice in Soz. The Azad loyalists had even favoured Peerzada Mohd Syeed and Taj Mohiuddin for the post of the PCC Chief and both of them had conveyed their unwillingness to lead the Congress in the troubled state. Another suggestion was to install Ch. Mohd Aslam as the PCC Chief but the party high command has favoured the idea of having a Kashmiri Congressman as the PCC President “to strengthen its areas of influence in the valley”. The Congress is believed to be well placed in Jammu region. The party high command has also appreciated the contribution made by Soz in enlarging the membership base for the party in Jammu and Kashmir. Despite odds he has been instrumental in organising public rallies and conferences of congress workers in the Kashmir valley. Reports said that the loyalists have again conveyed their concern over the activities of the dissidents in Jammu and Kashmir. The senior leaders of the All India Congress committee have been apprised by the leaders of the loyalist camp of the evil impact of the activities of the dissidents on the overall image of the Congress in the state. The loyalists have made a strong plea for disciplinary action against those dissidents who were openly campaigning against the party leaders.
