| Symposium on consumer protection organized | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
SAMBA, Dec 23: As part of the observance of consumer rights protection day being observed tomorrow, the Kathua Unit of Directorate of Field Publicity (DFP), Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India in coordination with Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Public Distributions, Department of Legal Metrology, Government of Jammu & Kashmir organised a series of special awareness programmes in Vijaypur Block of Samba district to aware the rural masses.
These special programmes include seminar, symposia, Theme based film shows and group discussions. These programmes were aimed at educating the general masses of the state in general and rural masses, especially the youth community in particular about the rights and duties of the consumers.
In this connection, an Inter School Symposium was organised at Government Higher Secondary School, Jakh in Vijaypur Block the other day. The theme of the Symposium was “Consumer Protection- Self Protection”. Five Educational Institutions of the vicinity including the host school participated in the Symposium. In all six participants from different schools took active part in the Symposium and expressed their views in brief on the subject. Principal of the host school, Vijay Laxmi presided over the function whereas Publicity Officer from DFP, Gulshan Raina was the chief guest on this occasion.
While interacting with the audience Shri Gulshan Raina provided elaborated information on the subject and underlined the need of awareness of Consumer Protection Act, Essential Commodities Act, Weight and Measures Act, and Packaged Commodities Rules.
Meanwhile, in order of Merit Sheetal Verma of Government High School, Tarore, Raman Jyoti of Government Girls Middle School, Jakh and Suman Manhas of Government Higher Secondary School, Jakh were adjudged 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively and were honoured with Merit Certificates and other Prizes.
