EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 23: After successful running of weekly ‘Sunday Theatre’ show for over six years, Natrang is all set to launch ‘Saturday Theatre show’ on December 25 at Zorawar Singh Auditorium, Jammu University with the presentation of internationally acclaimed Dogri play ‘Bawa Jitto’.
Governor NN Vohra would formally inaugurate this ambitious project of Natrang. This was disclosed here today by Natrang Director Balwant Thakur in a press briefing held at Natrang Studio Theatre, Jammu.
The Saturday Theatre show is being brought to Jammu audience by AIRCEL while Jammu Links is the web partner. On this occasion the lead actor of the play Arvind Anand, who plays the role of ‘Bawa Jitto’ is also being honored by Natrang with the life time achievement award for his selfless contribution to the enrichment of Indian Theatre.
Giving details Balwant Thakur said that Natrang was established in the year 1983 with the motive to establish Jammu as the ultimate theatre happening place of the country. Despite constraints and survival threats, the group continued its mission and brought the theatre of Jammu to the National/International limelight. In these years Natrang produced 285 new plays and performed over 5000 shows within and outside the country.
Six years back, the group started a weekly programme ‘Sunday Theatre’ and maintained this continuity and fulfilled the commitment of performing theatre every Sunday despite numerous challenges, threats and difficulties.
But the presentations of Sunday Theatre remained confined to its small intimate Studio Theatre which accommodates a small audience.
To begin with we will have this Saturday Show on every last Saturday of the alternative month which will later be brought to every month and to fortnight subsequently.
