Several organizations reject Mattoo as VC CU-J

JAMMU, Dec 23: The voice of resent against the appointment of Prof Amitabh Mattoo as first Vice Chancellor of Central University-Jammu (CU-J) is growing with each passing day as today again various political, social and student bodies have condemned the central government’s decision.
Students Scholar Joint Action Committee (SSJAC) opposed the appointment of Prof. Amitabh Mattoo as Vice Chancellor of Central University Jammu.
Addressing a press conference, committee members criticized the Central Government for appointing a controversial person for the prestigious post of Vice Chancellor as Prof Mattoo was earlier criticized for a number of his misdeeds as Vice Chancellor of Jammu University wether it is matter of appointments or other irregularities in the campus. How such a persons can be appointed as Vice Chancellor of Central University.
This appointment has been made in total disregard of the overwhelming sentiments of all sections of people of Jammu, who have been opposing the appointment of a person known for his anti- Jammu region stance, Kashmir Centric and separatists and militant friendly attitude, senior JPPF leader Inderjeet Kahjuria said here today
Addressing a media conference, Inderjeet Khajuria warned the authorities of a strong agitation in Jammu against this uncalled for hurt to the sentiments of the people of Jammu. He added that the agitation under the umbrella of JPPF along with various organisations of students and scholars of Jammu University was launched to press the demand for a local person as first Vice Chancellor of Jammu University. The agitation was suspended on the firm assurance given to them by various authorities including the cabinet ministers, MPs from Jammu and others that only a local scholar will be appointed as first Vice Chancellor of Central University Jammu. But all these assurances have been violated. He informed that a meeting of various pro-Jammu organizations, including trade bodies, student organizations and those of scholars has been called on Saturday 25th December, 2010 1:30 PM at JPPF office, Old Rajput Sabha premises to chalk out the next line of action against this unwanted step of the government.
Shri Ram Sena today expressed great resentment regarding nomination of Prof Amitabh Mattoo as Vice Chancellor by the HRD Ministry.
Shri Ram Sena President Rajiv Mahajan said that despite complaints, petitions and letters submitted to the President, Prime Minister and Minister of HRD regarding appointment of local Vice Chancellor in Central University of Jammu, it is regretted that the voice of the people of Jammu province has been ignored and a decision for Prof Mattoo’s nomination has been taken at a time when Jammu and Kashmir State is coming back to normalcy after witnessing four months of violence.
“Therefore it is advised and prayed to the Government of India, Prime Minister, UPA Chairperson—Sonia Gandhi, Kapil Sibal—HRD Minister to reconsider the decision for the welfare of the Jammu province and for the smooth functioning of Central University in Jammu province.
